about

Deep yoga and meditation music for solo shakuhachi flute 尺八, composed and performed by Adrian Freedman - gentle reflections of the heart, with echoes of silence and vibrations of universal consciousness for relaxation.

Zen Stillness is a 90-minute set of new music, played on shakuhachi flute - spacious, and calming, designed for yoga practice, meditation and deep relaxation - soothing sounds send a signal to the brain to relax, and transport the listener to a beautiful, quiet place that helps to improve focus, enhance practice and relax.

A serene and tranquil soundtrack performed in the style of ancient Japanese Zen music from the shakuhachi tradition known as 'Honkyoku'.

Writing new pieces for shakuhachi in the Honkyoku style is not very common. Adrian spent 7 years in Japan studying this ancient craft with the venerated Master Yokoyama Katsuya:

"Yokoyama encouraged me to find my own musical voice, and to allow the spirit of the traditional music to shine forth in new forms. In this music the quality of deep Zen stillness is emphasised, while the flavour of the Japanese scales is blended with Celtic influences and my own melodic inspiration."

The pieces of the Zen Stillness Set are being released here for the first time, having not been included on any previous album. The music can be found on all the usual online streaming platforms including Spotify, iTunes, Youtube, Apple Music etc.

"This music set is part of a new series I am producing for yoga, relaxation, meditation, soul retrieval, grieving, breathwork and other healing modalities. There seems to be a great wave of music with similar intentions at the moment, and of people on a healing journey searching for such music. I am happy to be part of this wave and to offer my music in service to the healing of humanity and of the planet."

The Zen Stillness music set is in three sections, linked by the gentle sound of Japanese temple bells:
